From Chert Dog’s perspective, “Doghead is pretty easy to learn, you just have to speak from your heart.” This velvety Black with Chocolate accents English Labrador Retriever came into my Father’s life the year my Mom passed suddenly on April 16th, which was Easter Sunday that year.
Though I was living in California at the time, I returned home to upstate New York the following year. It was from that moment on that the writing of Chert’s story began. An avid journal writer my whole life, keeping a running account of Chert’s purpose and ultimate message of unconditional love and forgiveness allowed for me to witness first-hand the healing powers of his love on the lives of those he encountered. Most importantly, the ultimate peacefulness he brought my Father, which was a miracle in itself. Through various blogs on my WordPress site I have shared his story, as well as his various “pet peeves” ( no pun intended) regarding his button fetish and favorite food, PIZZA!
Chert knew he was born for a purpose to fulfill, as so many of our animal friends know instinctively. He also knew he had a short amount of time to accomplish this task. This is the most important message he taught me about how valuable our every moment is in this life and that we are here to share our joy and encouragement with one another.
